“George Owen Knapp, founder of Union Carbide, built Knapp’s Castle shortly after purchasing the 160-acre (0.65 km2) parcel in 1916. In 1940, Frances Holden bought the property and invited her friend, world-famous opera singer Lotte Lehmann, to move in. The mansion was destroyed by a forest fire only five weeks later, and now only the massive sandstone foundations, fireplace pillars and walls of the original seven structures remain intact. The parcel is still privately owned but open to the public.” – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knapp’s_Castle

My older sister took me to Knapp’s Castle (high atop highway 154 from Santa Barbara to Santa Ynez) when was about 12 or 13, and I fell in love right away with the scenic views the Castle has to offer. It over looks my home town and is seated right above Cachuma Lake.

A few weeks ago (mid-April 2010) I took a few friends just for a random excursion to share some laughs and try out my new camera (Nikon D90 with 50mm 1.8 lens). It was a perfectly simple task which we achieved.
